St. Lucia Cricket Tour
St Lucia Cricket Tour
St Lucia lies in the Windward islands which also includes St Vincent, Grenada and Martinique. This small island has produced many fine cricketers who have played for the West Indies, the most famous being Daren Sammy, and the country's national stadium in Beausejour is named after him. St Lucia is regarded as being one of the most beautiful islands in the Caribbean. The famous Pitons at Soufrière are instantly recognisable and the idyllic Marigot Bay is a popular anchorage for luxury yachts. St Lucia is the perfect destination for cricketers of all ages.
The itinerary featured here is intended to give you inspiration and an idea of what you could do on your tour. Your trip will be created individually by one of our travel advisors to match your requirements and budget.
Flight to St Lucia
Flight to St Lucia: Today you fly from the UK to Hewanorra International Airport in St. Lucia. On arrival you are met by your local guide and private transport and transfer to your hotel in Rodney Bay in the north of the Island, close to the town of Gros Islet. Rodney Bay is an attractive cove with a beautiful sandy beach.
Morning Net Practice. Afternoon at Splash Island
Net Practice: This morning after breakfast there will be time for a swim at the beach before transferring to nearby Beausejour for training sessions. The Daren Sammy Cricket Ground at Beausejour is arguably one of the finest grounds in the Caribbean and has quickly gained a reputation of being one of the most sought-after venues by both regional and international cricket teams. Net sessions will be held nearby.
Splash Island: After the training sessions you return to your hotel for lunch and the rest of the afternoon is at leisure. At the beach on Rodney Bay there is the Splash Island Water Park, a series of inflatables just off the beach which are ideal for afternoon fun and games.
First Match at Mindoo Philip Park. Pigeon Island National Park
First Match: This morning you have your first match at the Mindoo Philip Park, formerly the home ground of the Windward Islands cricket team, situated in the island’s capital of Castries, just 30 minutes drive south of Rodney Bay. We can schedule one or two T20 matches which will each last for up to three hours. Precise fixture details will be arranged in consultation with you.
Pigeon Island National Park: In the afternoon you return to Rodney Bay and visit Fort Rodney and Pigeon Island National Park, one of the most important monuments in Saint Lucia’s history. The historic fort dates from the eighteenth century and was used by the British to keep watch on French ships. Today the old fortifications and canons are all that remain.
Second Match at Gros Islet Oval
Second Match: Today you have your second match at Gros Islet Oval, just a few minutes from the Hotel, and will play a 30-over format match. Typically a full day match such as this will usually start at 10am with lunch between the innings. Finish at approximately 3pm.
Return to Rodney Bay: In the afternoon you return to your hotel in Rodney Bay.
Third Match at Dennery. 4 x 4 Jeep Safari
Third Match: Today you have your third match. You head over to the wilder Atlantic coast side of the island where you play a T20 match at the Dennery Stadium.
4×4 Jeep Safari: After lunch you travel into the rainforests and wild uplands for an exciting 4 x 4 jeep tour to explore the island. The open-roof Land Rovers are specially modified to carry passengers in the back and can explore the rugged off-road terrain of the central part of the island. There is the possibility to stop at a waterfall for a short swim and also the chance to try some if the unusual tropical fruit that are grown on the island. You see some of the remoter communities and small fishing villages and see a side of the island that many tourists miss.
Fourth Match at the Daren Sammy Stadium
Fourth Match: Today you head back to Beausejour where you will play at the impressive Daren Sammy International Stadium where we can arrange either a 20 or 30 over match.
Catamaran Cruise: Today you depart from Rodney Bay for a full day catamaran cruise down the west coast of St. Lucia. You sail as far as the iconic Pitons at Soufriere. This is a wonderful excursion, and you can enjoy swimming in the warm Caribbean waters. During the voyage it is not uncommon to see Bottle Nosed Dolphins playing in the boat’s wake. You also visit the beautiful inlet of Hurricane Hole at Marigot Bay, the location many years ago for the filming of Dr Doolittle starring Rex Harrison. This is a picturesque cove usually filled with yachts from all over the world. The boat docks at Soufriere and a coach takes you the Morne Coubaril Estate, a former sugar plantation, where you have lunch.
Drive-in Volcano and Mud Bath: You then continue to the Diamond Botanical Gardens and Toraille Waterfall where you can enjoy a refreshing dip in the plunge pool. You also visit the so-called drive-in volcano and hot sulphur springs where you can have a mud bath!
