Choir Tour to Prague

Prague is a great musical city with a fine array of concert halls. There are many wonderful churches and public squares that serve as venues for concerts, and a fascinating musical history to uncover. Although Mozart visited only four times during his life, Prague is more closely associated than any other city with his fortunes.  The city’s enthusiasm for his music was perhaps greater here than in any other in the Austrian Empire, and in 1787 the opera Don Giovanni had its premiere performance at the historic Estates Theatre, still extant and active to this day.  Our tours to Prague can easily be combined with the German cities of Dresden and Leipzig which are just a short distance across the border.

Suggested Itinerary

The itinerary featured here is intended to give you inspiration and an idea of what you could do on your tour. Your trip will be created individually by one of our travel advisors to match your requirements and budget.

Day 1

Flight to Prague. Walking Tour of the Old Town

Flight to Prague: You are met on arrival by your guide and private coach and transfer to your hotel for check in.

Guided walking tour: After lunch you have a guided walking tour of old Prague. Walking is really the only way to explore Prague, and most of the oldest areas are within pedestrian zones with limited vehicle access. You start by the famous astronomical clock in the Old Town Square. Incredibly this clock is over 600 years old and continues to amaze with its procession of moving statues and Apostles. Other historic buildings and churches include the fourteenth century Tyn Church and St. Nicholas Church, both of which should not be missed. You also see the fascinating Jewish Quarter and of course Prague Castle which includes the iconic St. Vitus Cathedral which is seen from all locations in the city.

Evening: Dinner this evening will be at your hotel.

Day 2

Rehearsal Time and First Performance. Attend an evening concert.

Rehearsal Time: This morning you have time allotted for rehearsal, followed by free time and lunch.

First Performance: In the afternoon you have your first performance in the Church of the Holy Saviour. Located close to the Old Town, this is the largest Protestant church in Prague. It was originally built in the Gothic Renaissance style in the early 1600’s and has been reconstructed several times since then. It is a wonderful music venue and with a regular calendar of performances plus its proximity to the Old City, a good-sized audience is a regular feature of this venue.

Evening Concert: This evening we can arrange an optional visit to a choral or orchestral performance at one of the city’s main halls such as the Smetana Hall, the Rudolfinum or Hybernia Theatre (subject to scheduling and ticket availability).

Day 3

Petrin Park and Kampa Island.

Petrin Park: This morning you have a walking tour to Petrin Park, the city’s biggest and most beautiful park with beautifully manicured gardens and a lookout tower that looks like the Eiffel Tower. This tower is situated at the highest point of the park and is reached by a funicular railway which takes the effort out of the ascent. If you have a head for heights you can climb the stairs to the top of the tower or otherwise take the lift for a spectacular, sweeping view of Prague old town.

Kampa Island and Charles Bridge: From Petrin Park you head down towards the characterful Kampa Island by the Vistula River, known as Little Venice because of the canals.  You see the John Lennon Wall where Prague students started writing John Lennon lyrics as a way to air their grievances in the 1980’s. There is even a John Lennon Pub here. Various buildings and sites on Kampa Island were used as the film set for Mission Impossible I with Tom Cruise and you may recognise some of them.  You also see the Charles Bridge before having time for lunch on Kampa Island.

Second Performance: In the afternoon you have your second performance at the St. Nicholas Church. This is the most famous baroque church in the city and a superb example of High Baroque architecture.

Day 4

Estates Theatre, Third Performance and Evening Riverboat Trip

Estates Theatre: This morning you visit one of most historic opera houses in the world. The famous Estates Theatre was where the first performance of Mozart’s opera Don Giovanni took place in 1787, conducted by the composer himself. By contemporary standards it is a small theatre, and the sight-lines of some seats are restricted but its historical importance cannot be over-stated. Prices are very reasonable compared to Western European houses and if there is an evening performance while you are in Prague, we can arrange tickets.

Third Performance: After lunch you return to the city and have your third concert performance, this time at and an outdoor venue such as Strelecky Island where there are regular season concerts.

Evening River Boat Trip: In the early evening you go on a River Cruise on the Vltava River where you will see the Charles Bridge and Prague Castle as well as other historical landmarks. A buffet dinner will be provided on the boat.

Day 5

Aqua Palace and Flight Home

Aquapalace: This morning you visit Aquapalace, the biggest water park in Central Europe. Located a short distance outside of Prague, the park has a variety of waterslides, pools and artificial waves and is great fun for all.

Flight home: This afternoon you transfer to the airport for your flight home.
