Tibet Trips

Sandwiched uncomfortably between India and China, the history of Tibet has been a difficult and complex one which continues to arouse passions to this present day.

Under the political and economic control of China, Tibet has seen many changes, including vast improvements to its infrastructure meaning that it is now much easier to gain access to this vast land.  Flights are possible from Kathmandu in Nepal or Chengdu in China. Roads cross the Himalaya linking several regions of Nepal via new trade routes. Tours can be arranged which combine China with Tibet, or Nepal with Tibet, making for a fascinating overland journey through ever changing scenery and culture.

Lhasa is the spiritual hub for Tibetan Buddhists and the great edifices of the Potala and Jokhang are unmissable. The cities of Shigatse and Gyantse also lay claim to significant treasures including the Kumbum and Tashi Lhunpo Gompa.  But perhaps the highlight for any journey across Tibet is the sensational views to be had of the Himalaya and in particular Mount Everest. Indeed a visit to Mount Everest Base Camp can be included in a thrilling overland journey from Kathmandu to Lhasa.
