  • Day 1

    Departure from the US

    Today you depart for the flight to Beijing.

  • Day 2


    You arrive in Beijing today and begin your sightseeing with a visit to the iconic Bird's Nest Olympic Stadium. You then transfer to your central hotel with time to relax after checking in, before heading out a little later to visit either the famous Beijing Silk Street or Wangfujin Street with their vibrant shops and markets.

  • Day 3


    This morning you stroll across the vast Tiananmen Square before entering the incredible Forbidden City through the Gate of Heavenly Peace. The Forbidden City is an amazing complex or ornate gilded and yellow-tiled buildings which were once the residence of the Imperial family. After lunch you visit a traditional Beijing Hutong, one of the old characterful neighbourhoods with narrow alleyways. In the evening you can go out for dinner and an exciting Kung Fu show.

  • Day 4

    Beijing - Great Wall

    Today you drive north out of the city to the Great Wall of China at Badaling. This famous section of the Wall has played host to many world leaders who have come to China including President Nixon and Margaret Thatcher. You can hike along the Wall and admire the spectacular scenery. In the afternoon you return to Beijing, stopping along the way at the Ming Tombs where all the Ming Emperors have been buried.

  • Day 5

    Train to Shanghai

    This morning you take the new high speed Bullet Train from Beijing to Shanghai. The train covers the 800 miles in less than five hours, making it one of the longest and fastest high speed trains in the World. On arrival you check into your hotel in the city centre. In the afternoon you can visit the historic Jade Buddha Temple. In the evening you can stroll along the Bund, the famous river-front shopping and commercial street, and also visit a lively night market.

  • Day 6


    Today is a day to explore at leisure in the company of your guide, visiting some of the popular shopping districts of Shanghai to buy souvenirs, and enjoying a relaxing lunch at a traditional restaurant. In the evening you can go up the famous TV tower in the futuristic Pudong district for an amazing night time view of the city.

  • Day 7

    Fly home

    Today you transfer to the airport for the homeward flight.

    The Qianmen Jianguo hotel is an excellent value 3 star hotel which offers a combination of comfort and location, being just a short drive from the central Tianmen Square, and the Temple of Heaven. The main shopping street of Wangfujin is just a 15 minutes drive, practically on the same block in a city the size of Beijing.

    The Marriott Courtyard is located in the commercial centre of Shanghai. Within minutes of the hotel you can find the main Shanghai Railway Station, the Museum of Natural History, the Jing An Temple and People’s Square. The hotel has an indoor heated swimming pool  which makes it a great place to relax after a day of sightseeing.
